Free Consultation
Contact me today for a free consultation. When you call, I will ask you a few questions about your health and medical history. If you are eligible for Midwife care, you can then make an appointment to meet me to discuss your options for care.
Well Woman Care
Women's health care is well served through the midwifery model of care. Annual exams are an opportunity for so much more than a breast exam and a pap smear. It is a time that can be focused on a woman's individual needs with informative discussions shaped around her personal health history, values and concerns.
Nutrition, sexuality, stress, parenting, family planning, and hormones are just a few of the issues that affect our lives and our health. Every stage of a woman's life from adolescence to mid-life and beyond is unique and valuable and every woman deserves safe and satisfying well woman care.
Homebirth or Hospital Birth
At Nurturing Beginnings, I offer two different types of maternity care. The first type of care is for women who desire a homebirth. The second type of care is for women who would like Midwife Care for her prenatal care but are planning a hospital birth. After the Initial Prenatal visit, home visits are optional.
Quality Prenatal Care
Your prenatal care at Nurturing Beginnings will include regular prenatal appointments, lab work and referral for ultrasound (should you desire one). I will work closely with you during your pregnancy to help ensure that you and your baby stay healthy. Good nutrition, regular exercise and other preventative measures are keys to maintaining good health for both mom and baby.
At each appointment, I will monitor your blood pressure as well as other vital signs, measure your uterus to make sure your baby is growing well, determine your baby’s position by feeling your belly, and listen to the baby’s heart beat. I encourage you to bring your family to your prenatal visits. At each appointment, you and your family will have plenty of time to discuss all your questions and concerns.
You will be encouraged to attend childbirth education classes either in or outside of this practice based upon your individual needs and desires. At the same time, your prenatal visits are focused to prepare you and your family for your birth and welcoming your new baby.
During the course of your pregnancy, I will watch very carefully to make sure everything is going well, to eliminate possible risks to you or your baby. If an issue arises that is outside of healthy and normal, you will be referred to an obstetrician for appropriate care. My goal is to make sure that you receive the highest quality maternity care. During your pregnancy, I will always be available to you by phone.
Homebirth
There is no place more comfortable and relaxed than your own home. When you are relaxed during labor, your labor can progress more quickly and easily. With less tension and apprehension, you will experience less discomfort. During your pregnancy, I will work with you to prepare you for your labor and delivery. Examples of the things we will review are: strength and toning exercises, relaxation exercises, stretching, breathing, good nutrition and supplements to prepare you.
Because pain medicines and epidurals carry a risk of harm to you and your baby, it is not safe to use pharmaceutical pain relief at home. However, there are many techniques to help with pain reduction. One includes laboring in water, also known as the “aquadural”. Studies show that water therapy during labor helps a laboring mom relax, eases the discomfort of labor, and aids in the progression of labor.
In your own home, you are also able to move around freely, change scenery, eat and drink as you wish, and have whomever you’d like to be with you. These things make a difference in your childbirth experience and your perception of discomfort in labor. At home, you are in charge. Your care is personalized to your wishes. I will give support, make suggestions, and monitor you and your baby closely during labor, resulting in the best environment for your body to give birth naturally.
During your pregnancy, your prenatal visits may be in the comfort of your home; however, should you desire to visit my office you will have one or two of your visits at your home. You can order your birth supplies for less than $50.00 from www.babybirthandbeyond.com and search for KT305. When you go into labor, my assistant and I will come to your home with equipment prepared for your birth. We will stay with you and support you throughout the labor and delivery and after your baby is born. Once you and your baby are stable, fed, showered and tucked in a clean bed, we will leave you to rest. I am always available to you if you have any questions or concerns. I am available to you during the postpartum period as needed (you will have a minimum of three appointments), and lactation support is available to you as needed.
Hospital Birth
If you plan to deliver at the hospital, you can still have prenatal care from a midwife. The discussion during your prenatal visits will be geared a little differently; however, the care and lab work you receive will be identical. I will give you the appropriate referrals for childbirth classes and the opportunity to tour the hospital. Four weeks before your due date, I will fax your records to your hospital of choice. When you are in labor, you will go to the hospital and will receive care from the obstetrician who is on call. I will also, for a reasonable fee, provide you with the option of having a Doula (professional labor coach) to support you during your labor and delivery at the hospital. If at any time during your pregnancy, you decide to change your birthing plans, I will help you smoothly make the transition.
Financial Information
Midwife care offers a significant savings to you. The fees for Midwife care and homebirth are less than one-third the cost of obstetrical care and hospital birth. Your maternity care at Nurturing Beginnings includes all prenatal exams, home visits, labor and delivery, initial postpartum care, the services of the birth assistant, complete newborn exam, 24-48 hour postpartum visit, a two week postpartum visit, a six week postpartum exam, and filing of the birth certificate. Please call me for information regarding the fee for my services.
If you are covered by insurance, I will be happy to bill your insurance company for you, but you are responsible for the payment of services. Since insurance companies are billed globally after you deliver, I ask that you pay for services according to a payment plan. Once your insurance company reimburses me, you will be reimbursed accordingly.
Flexible payment plans and early payment discounts are available. I do accept cash, check, money order, and PayPal, as well as barter. Services and products that are not included in the fee are vitamins, most lab fees, RhoGAM, specialist services, childbirth classes, birth supplies, Doula services and waterbirth tub purchase or rental.
